The first international match at Twickenham was played on 15th January 1910, when England beat Wales 11-6. Since 1920, Twickenham Stadium, the home of England Rugby, has changed almost without recognition with the latest development of the new South Stand bringing the capacity of the stadium up to 82,000 plus a new hotel, offices, health & fitness club, conference and exhibition space.
Official Hospitality was first established on the ‘RFU Front Lawns’ back in the early 1980’s with companies such as John Laing, Esso Petroleum, JP Morgan, Otis Elevators and IBM being amongst the first to entertain for International Rugby, Middlesex Seven’s, Varsity Match plus other matches and events at Twickenham Stadium.
With a maximum of around 600 guests being entertained on the ‘RFU Front Lawns’ for any Twickenham rugby match, for those that remember entertaining at Twickenham in the early 1980’s, one of the fondest memories is of the trees growing through the traditional pole tents, that needed negotiating by guests and catering staff!
Official Corporate Hospitality has gone from strength to strength at Twickenham Stadium with the first private hospitality boxes being introduced in the’ old’ South Stand in late 1980’s.
